Pianist Calvin Leung Named Runner-Up in Steinway Galleries Australia People's Choice Piano Award 2025

Melbourne-based pianist Calvin Leung has been named runner-up in the prestigious Steinway Galleries Australia People’s Choice Piano Award 2025.

The national competition encourages entries from across the country, invited the public to vote for their favourite performances throughout June.

Calvin’s performance of The Adventure Etude (available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music) was the original composition in the competition and captivated audiences online with its technical brilliance and emotional depth, earning him widespread acclaim and a surge of public support.

“It’s incredibly humbling to be recognised by the public in a competition that celebrates the joy of music. I’m grateful for everyone who listened, voted, and connected with my performance - it’s a reminder of why I play”, said Calvin as he reflected on his performance.

The People’s Choice Award is part of Steinway Galleries Australia’s annual National Online Piano Competition, which aims to spotlight exceptional talent and foster a love for piano music across all ages and backgrounds.

Calvin’s recognition in this year’s competition comes 20 years after winning the Bendigo Piano Competition in 2005 for his performance of Sonny Chua’s Themes and 12 Deviations.
